A Short Documentary Focusing on Mukbang, The Popular Korean Trend of Watching People Eat on Camera
In a short documentary for the Vice series Munchies, Charlet Duboc travels to Seoul, South Korea to explore mukbang (or Meok-Bang), the popular Korean phenomenon of people eating on camera to large audiences watching online.
Duboc attempts to understand the appeal of mukbang for both those who watch it and those who film themselves eating. She meets with BJ Sof, a popular mukbang broadcast jockey (or BJ) who discusses his work and the details of the mukbang lifestyle.
Actor Steven Yeun discussed the phenomenon in a recent interview on Conan where he explained his fascination with a BJ he calls “Korean Peter Griffin.”
