FCC Will Propose Lifting the Ban on In-Flight Cell Phone Use in December
Today The Wall Street Journal reported that this December the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will propose lifting the cell phone ban currently in force on U.S. domestic flights. The proposed rule change would allow cell phone voice and data usage once an aircraft is above 10,000 feet. Airlines would need to install special communication equipment to enable cell phone calls and data. After publishing the proposal, the FCC will consider comments before making a final decision. In October the FAA lifted in-flight restrictions on portable electronics.
