Face Dance, Participants Control Michael Jackson Avatar With Their Face in Interactive Installation
“Face Dance” is an interactive video installation that lets participants control a dancing Michael Jackson avatar with their face. The installation uses a camera and facial recognition software to capture the facial expressions of the participant. Certain facial expressions result in different dance moves by the avatar. The installation was created by filmmaking duo Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost (Supermarché), and coders Aaron Meyers, Lauren McCarthy, and James George during a December 2012 hackathon hosted by New Cinema in New York City. For more on the project, see this article and video by The Creators Project.
