A Visualization of a Day in the Life of a Random New York City Yellow Taxi
NYC Taxis: A Day in the Life is a visualization by urbanist and mapmaker Chris Whong that displays the data for a random New York City yellow taxi during a single day in 2013. The data showcases where the taxi operated, how busy it was, and how much money it made over the course of 24 hours. The code for the project is available on GitHub.
This civic technology project visualizes taxi trip data from 2013, showing the activities of a single taxi on a single day. The original data include ~170 Million trips. Of these, 30 cab/days were queried at random for inclusion in this project. The data were provided by the Taxi and Limousine Commission via a FOIL request.
