The Making A Better Yesterday Today solo art exhibition by California pop surrealist painter Isabel Samaras at Varnish Fine Art will feature her wonderful collection of artwork in two separate spaces labeled “Yesterday” and “Today.” The “Yesterday” space will display artwork from Isabel’s series of past greatest hits, publications and works never seen in San Francisco and “Today” will show off her new pop cultural mashup oil paintings and limited edition prints on wood. The show’s opening reception will be on Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 6 to 9 PM and run until Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Varnish Fine Art in San Francisco. About the solo art exhibit:

In her work, Isabel Samaras takes us on a tour through Art History populated with characters from Modern Mythology (20th century television characters and narratives.) Referencing timeless themes, Renaissance Art, Dutch genre painting, Persian Miniatures and Victorian Ethnographic photography, Samaras compresses space and time to create alternative narratives for the familiar characters we grew up watching on TV. Painting beloved and known characters from “I Dream of Jeannie,” “Gilligan’s Island” and “Planet of the Apes,” Samaras at times constructs classical tableaus, referencing the Renaissance masters’ use of people, places and stories from Classical Antiquity.
