re:SEAT Market Street, Public Seating & Green Space for San Francisco’s Central Market District

re:SEAT Market Street

re:SEAT Market Street is a project to provide modular public seating and green space in San Francisco’s Central Market neighborhood (video). Despite being near the heart of San Francisco, the Central Market neighborhood has been plagued for years by vandalism, crime, and closed businesses. The re:SEAT Project hopes to establish public spaces that will encourage community, foot traffic, and patronage of local businesses. The modular re:SEAT cubes can be configured as seats, benches, and planters in clusters of any size. The project is a collaboration between the Central Market Community Benefit Corporation and volunteer architects from the design firm HOK. The collaborators are raising funds for the project on Kickstarter.
