Profile of a Spanish Retiree Who Builds Tiny Working Engines by Hand

José Manuel Hermo Barreiro is a retired naval mechanic in Galicia, Spain who builds tiny working replicas of car, plane, and boat engines by hand. He’s created 11 in all, including a tiny V-12, which took 1,220 hours to complete, and which he believes is the smallest of its kind in the world.

Each piece I make, I treat like a baby. These small pieces…it’s not patience, but passion for mechanics.
