Virgin Americans

Several popular geek bloggers make cameo appearances in the “Game” episode of Virgin America’s new series of cartoon promos: “Virgin Americans”

Even bloggers consider themselves Virgin Americans. Shown here, freshly emerged from the Hall of Justice: Xeni Jardin, Cory Doctorow, David Pescovitz, and Mark Frauenfelder of Boing Boing; Pete Rojas of Engadget; Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose of Diggnation.

Why do all the cartoons that are trying to be all cool and oh so chic have to be damn fugly? The whole “I’m too cool and ‘with it’ to give a crap” aesthetic is so tired and frankly pathetic. If you’re too slick to make your cartoon look like it wasn’t drawn by a child with palsy – all apologies to children with palsy trying to break into the cartoon field – you’re probably too slick to make cartoons at all. You should just sit at home and be ironic to your cat. Now that would truly be cool.
