Astonishing salt art installations by Yamamoto Motoi

Japanese artist Yamamoto Motoi creates beautiful salt art installations that are astonishing both in their massive scale and incredible intricacy. “Forest of Beyond” is a lace-like pattern of salt that spans an entire room. “Forest of the Skyscraper” is an 11 foot tall skyscraper of salt. Both are on display at “To the White Forest,” Yamamoto’s exhibition at the Hakone Open-Air Museum in Kanagawa, Japan (see a making-of video for the exhibition). When the exhibition ends on March 11, the public is invited to help dismantle the art and carry the salt (all seven tons of it) back to the ocean.
