Digital Photography Review (dpreview.com)

Amazon.com has acquired my one of my favorite online resources for digital photography, Digital Photography Review (dpreview.com). I go to their forums all of the time and their extensive camera reviews are really helpful. This is great news for dpreview.com, which Phil Askey started in 1998, as it will allow them to continue to grow and roll out new features. Here’s the full announcement from dpreview.com.

We’re proud and excited to announce that Dpreview has been acquired by the worlds leading online retailer, Amazon.com. Started as hobby site in 1998, dpreview.com has grown to be the number one destination for anyone interested in digital cameras and digital photography. Each month dpreview.com has seven million unique visitors (over 22 million sessions) who read over 120 million pages. “We’ve worked very hard over the last eight years to deliver consistently high quality content to our readers”, founder Phil Askey said. “It will be fantastic to be able to expand and build on that without compromising our quality or independence. With the support and resources of Amazon we can achieve this.”

This is interesting timing since I just got off the phone with one of the people opposed to the Amazon aStore we were testing out with Laughing Squid. I was telling him how Amazon.com is much more than just books these days and that I use their catalog to research and read reviews of photography equipment, which I often end up buying at independent retailers like B&H Photo Video or Calumet.
