A 3D-Printed Piano Keyboard That Mimics the Feel of an Acoustic Piano

Brian Yu of Dovetail developed a modular, 3D-printed piano keyboard that uses compliant mechanisms and custom electronics to mimic the key action of an acoustic piano.

This is a 3D-printed piano that actually plays. And I spent the last 6 months designing, prototyping, and testing it. … I experimented with compliant mechanisms, modular electronics, and more in pursuit of an acoustic-esque key action at a more affordable price.

The six-month project was an attempt to bridge the gap between affordable digital pianos and the feel of an acoustic piano.
