Reggie Watts, A One Man Music Machine

by Scott Beale on May 6, 2009 · 3 comments

Reggie Watts is an astonishing performer, a talented musician and comedian who samples himself live and then performs along with his looping samples. I first saw him a few years back during Sxip Shirey’s “Hour of Charm” at Joe’s Pub in Manhattan and was blown away by his performance.

In 2007 Jake Lodwick made a couple of great demo videos with Reggie, “Out Of Control” and “Lost in the Options”.

Reggie recently made an appearance at The Sound of Young America in Portland.

He surely has talent and his own style. I am pleased beatboxing is evolving and incorporating the endless stream of musical tools available. If that is found interesting than perhaps attention should be drawn to my favorite mouth-drummer, Shlomo as well – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fk6LFBYHDWo
He has many finer performances but the best introduction to a new artist is something familiar.
