Google SpaceShipOne Replica

When was at Google a couple of weeks ago for the WordPress Meetup, there were a couple of new installations on Googleplex campus that were not there during my previous trip back in October.

First there is the new full scale replica of Paul Allen/Virgin sponsored SpaceShipOne, the first privately funded vehicle to make a space flight and winner of the first Ansari X PRIZE in 2004. It is currently hanging over the stairs in the main entrance of Building 43. Google co-founder Larry Page is a trustee on the X PRIZE board.

There is a sign taped to the back of the SpaceShipOne replica’s rocket that reads:

Attention Googlers: Please do NOT launch. Thanks

The other noticeable new addition is the giant T-Rex skeleton outside of Building 43, in front of the volleyball court. It is currently chasing after a flock of pink flamingos, the plastic lawn variety. Rumor has it that on April 1st, these pink flamingos formed a rebellion and attacked the Tyrannosaurus rex.

Niall Kennedy shot a photo of the T-Rex being installed place back in December.
