Pranksters at Burning Man have changed the sign on top of the infamous Thunderdome to read “Hot Topic”. Bravo!

Thunderdome, where epic Mad Max style battles take place between bungee suspended warriors, is run by the San Francisco goth/industrial group Death Guild and of course Hot Topic is where suburban goth kids buy their clothes at the mall.

Here’s a video by marclar of the Thunderdome in 2007.

Ha! Perfect.

Hearing about pranks like this may be the only positive thing to come from Burning Man being fully online.

I have the Envy that I didn’t think of that first. I do love me a deathguild, but this is just HILARIOUS.

I’ll bet it was @sfslim. It seems like the sort of thing he’d do.

It is possible that SFslim had some level of participation, but mastermind he was not ;) I’m not sure how I would know this….bunny camp must have told me.

I hear that the effort was spread across multiple people, multiple years, and multiple groups. They will not be found. All that exists is dark photos of shadowy people atop the dome:

Hey as being part of deathguild *medic for the thunderdome look me up at burning man 2010* i know that the prank was especially laughable by us for the fact of one of our members being a general manager for hot topic in thier area.

My personal favorite moment at Thunderdome… 2003, Monkey vs Bunny.

AWESOME!

so glad someone captured this. I had a virgin ask me about “advertising at burning man” because they saw the “hot topic billboard on thunderdome”.

I had to explain it was a prank :)
