‘Becoming Sumo’, A Documentary About the First Sumo Wrestler From Africa
“Becoming Sumo” is a look into the life of Abdelrahman Shalan, an Egypt native who is widely regarded as the first professional sumo wrestler from the African continent. Produced by Canadian production company Salazar, the film explores Shalan’s decision to move to Japan at age 16, where he began wrestling under the name Osunaarashi — The Great Sandstorm. The four-minute clip is part of a half-hour long film created for Red Bull Media House that available through the RedBullTV App on Apple TV, Xbox and Amazon Fire.
