Here’s an amazing video shot from a helmet cam of a skier who was trapped in an avalanche in Haines, Alaska. The video shows rescuers digging him out of the snow. Chappy, who was snowmobiling nearby that day, tells the story of what happened.

OMG – made my toes curl!!! Amazing footage – very difficult to watch. Yay Chappy! :)
Having lots of friends who are backcountry fanatics, that was INCREDIBLY difficult to watch. My anxiety level was through the roof, even knowing the positive outcome. I hope this serves to emphasize the need for buddy systems, tracking devices, and a plan to deal with emergencies. The rescue team did a great job, but I tell ya, I was hollering at my monitor telling them to get their d*#$ shovels assembled and DIG FASTER!
One of the scariest things I’ve ever seen. . .I can imagine at around minute 3-4 under, you must be thinking no one is coming.
Bet that was the best bit of sky that guy saw ever.
This made me yell out at the monitor – the claustrophobia made me want to scream. Absolutely terrifying to watch, just so glad there was a good outcome. Incredible video.
