Wilderness Expert Coyote Peterson Picks Up a Giant Black Slug That’s the Size of a Small Dog

In his series “Beyond the Tide“, host Coyote Peterson of Brave Wilderness enlisted the assistance of tidal pool expert Aaron Sanchez on a search for a giant black sea hare in Southern California. Peterson was about to give up when Sanchez spotted a beautiful specimen, which Peterson gently picked up and commented on its weight, grip and sliminess.

Weighing up to 30lbs the Black Sea Hare is the largest slug in the world and is found in abundance along the Pacific Coast of the United States. Aptly named Sea Hare due to their rabbit ear looking appendages, these creatures are truly a primordial wonder of the ocean. Who would have ever thought a Sea Slug could grow to the size of a small dog!?
