The Backyard Scientist Puts Out a Flaming Swimming Pool Using Liquid Nitrogen and Dry Ice
The Backyard Scientist performed an experiment where he attempted to extinguish a flaming swimming pool using liquid nitrogen and dry ice. He lit the pool on fire using diethyl ether, which is highly flammable and floats on the water’s surface. As the liquid nitrogen and dry ice hit the water they each created large clouds of gas that put out the fire by depriving it of oxygen.
