Heritage Steam Trains Drag Race Side by Side During the Transport Heritage Expo in Sydney, Australia
Michael Downie of DownieLive attended the Transport Heritage Expo in Sydney, Australia, to see two heritage steam locomotives race side by side on live tracks out of Central Station. The streamlined train, Locomotive 3801, was built in 1943, and its challenger, Locomotive 3526, in 1917. Downie was given special access to document this drag race from inside and outside the trains.
Two steam locomotives drag racing on live tracks starting at Sydney Central Station. Not only do we get to ride on board as it happens, we have been given access to cameras mounted on the outside of the two locomotives.
The expo is presented by Transport Heritage NSW, a nonprofit that manages the state’s government-owned heritage rail fleet, including both of these locomotives.
Downie also enjoyed historic bus rides around the city and a ride on the James Craig, a tall ship from 1874.
So, we’re going to take a free bus ride from Sydney Central Station to the waterfront where I have tickets for my next heritage ride. This is the James Craig, a tall ship built in 1874. And today, we ride aboard it under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
