Empire Peaks, Sculptural Mashups of ‘Star Wars’ Characters and Pop Culture Figures
“No House Divided a Mystical Energy” – Abraham Lincoln as Han Solo
Seattle-based artist Michael Leavitt has created Empire Peaks, an awesome series of sculptural mashups mixing Star Wars characters with pop culture figures. He did an amazing job of “juxtaposing the classic archetypal roles found in Yoda, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and the rest of the famed cast with pop-culture personas.” His collection of articulated sculptures are currently on display at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York City and will remain there until December 21st, 2013.
The figuratively representational sculptures reference the likenesses of various icons including artists, politicians, celebrities and other culturally significant figures. Highly detailed and fully articulated with moving body parts, the works are a nostalgic satire of familiar childhood toys.
