A Robotic ‘Mother’ Builds Its Own Robot Children From Motorized Blocks and Assesses Which Is Best
A robotic “mother” developed by a team of researchers at Cambridge University and ETH Zurich builds its own robot children from motorized blocks, and assesses which designs are best. The robot then uses that data to improve designs for the next generation of robots, which creates a type of “survival of the fittest” evolution for the robots.
A recent paper published in PLOS One titled “Morphological Evolution of Physical Robots through Model-Free Phenotype Development” details the work being done by the team.
