LEGO Space Shuttle in Space

As a tribute to the now defunct Space Shuttle program, Romanian student Raul Oaida tethered a LEGO Space Shuttle model to a weather balloon and launched it from a field in Central Germany to an altitude of 114,000 feet (video). Unable to finance the project himself, Oaida convinced Australian Internet entrepreneur Steve Sammartino to invest in the endeavor after pitching it to Sammartino on Skype.
