Bizarre 1987 Video Showing Apple Imagining Future 1997 Apple

Here’s a bizarre “Time Capsule” video from 1987 showing Apple imagining what the Apple of 1997 would be like. I’m still holding out for the “Vista Mac II”.

Here’s Apple’s Time Capsule video from 1984.

Wow.. hadn't seen this one. Funny thing when i watched the commercial. It somewhat has all the gimmicks Apple uses today to sell itself. Graphic enhancements, zoom ins/outs, slide. Did you see the Navigator video as well? (http://youtube.com/watch?v=3WdS4TscWH8)

“In other news, Jack Tramiel opened a new restaurant.” is a jab at Commodore. Jack Tramiel founded Commodore and at that time the Amiga 1000 would have been a competitor to the Mac.

I find it interesting that the 1984 video (while Jobs was still there) has an optimistic quality not-dissimilar to an iPod commercial (constant music, relentless energy) whereas the post-Jobs/Scully era 1987 video has an almost lethargic quality, trying to be funny but in the end a bit sad. (Admittedly, that reaction comes while thinking about the decade long nose dive the company was just beginning in 1987.)
