The Rap Guide to Evolution, Baba Brinkman Explains Principles of Biology With Rap Lyrics

In 2011 and 2012, Canadian rap artist Baba Brinkman created “The Rap Guide to Evolution,” a series of music videos that explain various principles of biology — like artificial selection, natural selection, DNA, and the survival of the fittest, to name a few — using rap lyrics.

The project owes its origins to the geneticist Dr. Mark Pallen, who specially requested “a rap version of the Origin of Species” for Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday in 2009. Baba went on to perform the show to critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and off-Broadway in New York. The music videos and teaching resources on this site were developed with the support of the Wellcome Trust, in partnership with London’s SPL Productions.

More of the educational and entertaining videos can be found on the Rap Guide to Evolution website. Previously, we wrote about Brinkman’s rap version of The Canterbury Tales.
