The City of Parma, Ohio Goes Above and Beyond To Protect the Bird Who Built a Nest on a Police Car

In April, police officers in Parma, Ohio noticed that a mourning dove had made her nest in the warm, dry area at the base of the windshield of an auxiliary police car, they decided to let her be since the car wasn’t being used at the time. In order ensure that the dove, who they nicknamed Gerty, and her nest remained undisturbed, police officers taped an umbrella to the car and used crime scene tape to isolate the car.

After a mourning dove created a nest at the base of the windshield on a Parma Auxiliary Police car, our officers took steps to make sure it isn’t disturbed, even adding an umbrella to keep it dry.
