A British Lab That Creates Lightning Indoors In Order to Predict Failures on the Electrical Grid

Lightning Indoors

Wired UK went inside the High Voltage Laboratory at the University of Manchester to witness first hand the incredible lightning that they create indoors via Tesla coils to test electrical equipment and predict failures within the electrical grid.

The lab works to predict failures on the electrical grid and protect it from blackouts. To do so, Dr Vidyadhar Peesapati and his team test electrical equipment to its limit – sometimes striking it with up to millions of volts.
