Vocal Cockatoo Surrendered for Being Too Loud Finds Home After 16 Years With Humans Who Adore Him

A sweet Moluccan cockatoo named Shiloh, who was surrendered to The Wilson Parrot Foundation in Damascus, Maryland, when he was four years old for being too loud, finally found a home after 16 years with a family who loves him just the way he is. In fact, Shiloh picked out his human, Justine, and her daughter while volunteering at the foundation.

The really cool thing is you actually have to volunteer for either once a week for 6 months or twice a week for 3 months and then the bird picks you. …Now with Shiloh, it was a little unique. He was surrendered for being too loud. He was four years old when that happened. He lived at the rescue for 16 years. And Shiloh fell in love not just with me, but also with my daughter.

They brought Shiloh home, and since then, he’s become the king of his castle, singing loudly, barking like a dog, and hopping around the house like a bunny. Justine said Shiloh has a severe case of FOMO.

Shiloh has a very serious case of fear of missing out. When I host my bookclub, if we’re not looking at him whilewe talk, he will lean down and go, “Hello, one extra.” If my husband comes up to me and gives me a hug and a kiss, Shiloh’s like, “Why am I not involved?”

Justine also said that they knew what they were getting into with Shiloh and purposefully timed it so he’d never have to be rehomed again.

We purposely adopted a bird while we were younger…so that he would not have to be rehomed later in life. Cockatoos are not good pets. They are not meant to be in houses. We wish that all cockatoos could be out in the wild and free. But of course, Shiloh’s 26. He’s not going anywhere.
