LeVar Burton Pays a Visit to ‘Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood’ in 1998
Actor David Newell, who played mailman Mr. McFeely on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, recalled a heartfelt episode in 1998 when LeVar Burton of Reading Rainbow came by to visit Fred Rogers and read a book to him and his television audience. The respect for each other was absolutely palpable.
In 1998 LeVar Burton visits Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood during episode 1725 to talk about his love of acting and reading. He and Fred Rogers look at pictures of Levar, and they also read LeVar’s book called “The Daddy Book”. LeVar Burton is also known for hosting the show “Reading Rainbow” on PBS.
Burton spoke fondly of Rogers while promoting his new book, “The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm” at the 2015 Midwinter Meeting of the American Library Association.
