Fingerstyle Guitarist Covers Steely Dan’s ‘Peg’ as a Warm Acoustic Jazz Instrumental
Japanese fingerstyle guitar virtuoso Kent Nishimura covered the classic Steely Dan song “Peg” as a warm acoustic jazz instrumental. As in previous videos, Nishimura not only played the song’s complex chord progression but also incorporated Donald Fagen’s lead vocal and Michael McDonald’s backing vocals into the arrangement.
This is my take on Steely Dan’s Peg. In the chorus, I did my best to capture Michael McDonald’s iconic backing vocal part on the guitar. The tuning CGDGBD makes it much easier to achieve those close voicings.
Nishimura previously covered “Deacon Blues”, also by Steely Dan.
