San Francisco independent journalist and video blogger Josh Wolf was arrested yesterday for refusing a federal grand jury’s request to turn over video he shot of a burning police car during last year’s G8 protest. It appears that this is a situation where independent journalist and bloggers are not given the same rights as traditional journalists and the outcome of this may have a major impact on the definition of who is considered media and who is not. Here’s Josh’s overview of this issue.

Josh is currently located at The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Dublin and you can contribute to his legal defense fund through The Free Josh Wolf Wiki. Here’s more coverage:

- San Francisco Chronicle (Bob Egelko)

- CNET/New York Times (Jesse McKinley)

- Indybay

- SFist (Jackson West)

- Metroblogging San Francisco (Violet Blue)

- Robert Scoble

- Ted Rheingold

- Molly Golightly

- Eddie Codel

and even more media coverage

Josh’s attorney, Jose Luis Fuentes, passed along his contact info, though he could be set free pending an appeal to the 9th Circuit:
