Survival Research Labs Mini Show at Sonoma County Museum

SRL San Jose 2006 Show

Survival Research Labs is doing a mini show at the Sonoma County Museum on October 30th as part of the museum members preview for the “Mad Science” exhibit which runs from October 31st, 2010 through February 6th, 2011.

We invite you to a special performance by Survival Research Laboratories for the members preview of Mad Science: Experiments in Kinetic and Robotic Art. Founder Mark Pauline describes the event as, “In an explosion of ungovernable rage, Machines and Robots from Survival Research Labs stage a mechanical street seizure!”

Survival Research Laboratories was conceived of and founded by Mark Pauline in November 1978. Since its inception SRL has operated as an organization of creative technicians dedicated to re-directing the techniques, tools, and tenets of industry, science, and the military away from their typical manifestations in practicality, product or warfare. Since 1979, SRL has staged over 45 mechanized presentations in the United States and Europe. Each performance consists of a unique set of ritualized interactions between machines, robots, and special effects devices, employed in developing themes of socio-political satire.

Here’s a video of a Motoman UP50 robot that SRL is modifying for the show.
