OTTO is a customizable camera by Next Thing Co. in Oakland, California featuring a rotating crank that allows users to create animated GIFs. The crank allows the camera to create a GIF one frame at a time when rotated clockwise, and users signal they are done with their GIF by rotating in the opposite direction. The finished image is automatically synced with the user’s smartphone. The device is powered by a Raspberry Pi (see previous post) single-board computer.
OTTO is currently raising funds via a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.
