Stewart Lamb Cromar, an interactive content manager at The University of Edinburgh, has created a monochromatic LEGO set based on the historical Analytical Engine and features Ada Lovelace, who is known as the first computer programmer, and “father of the computer” Charles Babbage. You can help Stewart’s set become an official LEGO product by being one of the 10,000 voters needed on LEGO Ideas.
December 10th 2015 marks the 200th anniversary of Ada’s birth. This project would be a fitting commemoration for her bicentenary and hopefully inspire a whole new generation of computer programmers.
The monochromatic brick palette helps to evoke a Victorian atmosphere and the engine itself is decorated with cogs, chains and pistons for a steampunk aesthetic. There is also capacity for the model to house a mini-computer such as the Raspberry Pi v2.0 single-board computer (optional and not included). (read more)
