Millions of Tiny Red Crabs Blanket the Ground as They Migrate En Masse on Christmas Island
A video posted by YouTube user Lennyt captures a massive migration of tiny red crabs that appear to form a sort of living red carpeting as they move across the natural and man-made landscapes of Christmas Island, an Australian territory located near Indonesia in the Indian Ocean. The crustaceans, who live most of their lives in the forest brush, migrate to the coast once a year around October and November to breed. After three to four weeks in the water, baby crabs begin their migration back into the land.
