Color Film of the Streets & People of New York City in 1939

In the summer of 1939, French tourist Jean Vivier shot this incredible color footage of the streets and people of New York City. Shot on 16 mm Kodachrome, Vivier’s film is remarkably wide-ranging—in addition to filming typical tourist sites in Manhattan, Vivier captured fascinating candid shots of New Yorkers in Chinatown and Harlem. The film was recently uncovered by Romano-Archives.
