A Solar-Powered Kinetic Sculpture of a Bird That Flaps Its Wings Gracefully

Artist Tim Laursen has created Sun-Bird, a beautiful kinetic sculpture of a bird that uses an electric motor and a complex array of cams to flap its wings gracefully, as if in flight. The sculpture can be powered by a solar array or a hand crank. It will be installed in 2015 at Cronig’s Market on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. Back in 2012 we posted about Laursen’s MIDI-controlled drum machine robots.
