A New Permeable Concrete That Absorbs Water and Could Help Prevent Flooding
Topmix Permeable is a new concrete developed by Tarmac that absorbs water rather than allowing it to pool on its surface. This could help prevent flooding by better managing storm water than traditionally paved surfaces.
Tarmac has released a demonstration video that features a trunk dumping 4,000 liters of water onto a parking lot paved with the new material. The water drains through the pavement in 60 seconds rather than running off along the surface like traditional concrete and is really impressive to see.
A video by Tech Insider further explains the technology of Topmix Permeable, and also its limitations.
