17th Annual Penny Potlatch Parade

This Saturday, November 3rd The San Francisco Cacophony Society presents the 17th Annual Penny Potlatch Parade & (Post) Autumnal Equinox Extravaganza with your host, Peter Copperseed. Show up at 2:30pm with your pennies on the corner of Haight & Ashbury by the Ben & Jerry’s and prepare to lose your cents’ of mind.

It’s time again for the annual Cacophony Society event where we throw our money away! This ritual of abundance belatedly celebrates the Autumnal Equinox (copper IS a Fall color, after all…) and affords us the opportunity to act silly in public (like we need an excuse…). Spare change the passers-by (offering, of course); give people a penny for their thoughts; sow the seeds of good luck by leaving lucky pennies for folks to find; dance down Haight Street singing “Pennies From Heaven” and other overly-optimistic Depression-era ditties. But save enough pennies to ride the carousel in Golden Gate Park! Synchronized bevies of copper-lamé clad showgirls/boys tap dancing lavish Busby Berkeley-like production numbers are always encouraged, but somehow never actually materialize. Never the less, you’ll never have so much fun losing money as at the annual Penny Parade!

Where: Meet at the corner of Haight & Ashbury, SF (Ben & Jerry’s corner)

When: Sunday, November 4th, 2007; 2:30 SHARP! (Remember: clocks “fall back” Sat. night)

Bring: Your penny jar!

Attire: Monetary, copper, or autumnal apparel admired
