Seattle Artist Creates Rainy Day Sidewalk Art That Is Only Visible When Wet

In his Rainworks project, Seattle-based artist Peregrine Church creates clever sidewalk art that is only visible when wet. Church embarked on the project as a way to add a bit of whimsy to rainy days in Seattle–of which there are, on average, 155 per year. Each stenciled work offers a rain-themed message–“Proud to be rainy”–or a diversion, like a hopscotch game. Church creates the works by stenciling the sidewalks with a biodegradable superhydrophobic coating.
