Saying Farewell To The Squid List

The Squid List

The Squid List, the San Francisco Bay Area events email list and calendar that was an early part of Laughing Squid, is shutting down. I originally created it as a BCC mailing list in 1996 to let my friends know what events the artists from Burning Man were doing throughout the year. It evolved from there into a public list and later on we added a calendar.

Here’s a write-up I did in 2011 on The History of The Squid List.

At this point we feel that The Squid List has run its course. Most of our original users have moved on to other resources to find out about and promote events. The time and expense of keeping the list running have made us realize that it is time for us to move on. Laughing Squid has always been a morphing entity, this is just part of our ongoing evolution.

Thanks to everyone who used The Squid List over the years, from people looking for unique events to attend to event producers promoting those events. It has been quite a journey and The Squid List has been an important part of Laughing Squid’s legacy.

And a super huge thanks to Simone Davalos who has been running The Squid List since 2006. She single-handedly saved it from extinction an additional 7 years! Also this means that Simone is back on the market, so hire her while you can, she rocks!

We will be turning off event submissions on September 15th, 2013 and then deactivating the calendar on October 31st, 2013.
