Matt Groening Named Several Characters From ‘The Simpsons’ After Streets in Portland, Oregon

Matt Groening grew up in Portland, Oregon, and named several characters from The Simpsons after streets as a tribute to his hometown. This is one of the things he talks about in the documentary “The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special – In 3-D! On Ice!” by Morgan Spurlock.

Driving around Portland, we found ourselves on NE Flanders, which, of course, is what Ned Flanders named after. Heidely-ho, neighbor!
