MaxFunCon 2010 Wrap-Up

The 2nd annual MaxFunCon took place this weekend, in a far off kingdom known as The Inland Empire. This gathering is a production of MaximumFun.org and is described as a convocation of awesome people who seek to become more awesome. It is instigated, conducted, and cleaned up afterward by Jesse Thorn (aka “America’s Radio Sweetheart”) who also hosts the podcasts The Sound of Young America and Jordan, Jesse, Go!.

The event is dedicated to living up to its name and deriving optimal enjoyment for its 200+ attendees. This entails onsite experts practicing their respective art forms including sketch comedy (Elephant Larry, Kasper Hauser), podcasting (You Look Nice Today, Never Not Funny), mixology (Dr. Cocktail), stand-up comedy (Marc Maron, Maria Bamford, Al Madrigal), and being Andrew W.K. (Andrew W.K.). There are also classes for the folks who attend to learn from these and other awesome folks.

As a first time attendee, I was blown away by the whirlwind of fun and funny activity; it was a truly permagrin kind of experience.

Mikl-em

Actor, nerd, poet, producer, writer mikl-em made his name short so you wouldn't have to. In addition to his blog you can find his writing in "Hi Fructose" magazine and witness him almost life-sized in various plays at The Dark Room Theater in SF's Mission district.

He tends to write about theater, humor, San Francisco culture and history, and stuff that's just plain weird. He thanks Scott for sharing the keys to the Laughing Squid virtual HQ and promises to uphold whatever it is that the mirthful cephalopod would prefer to be uplifted.
