Harvey Pekar Library Statue Project

Harvey Pekar Library Statue

The Harvey Pekar Library Statue is a proposed memorial to Harvey Pekar, the indie graphic novelist (American Splendor) who died in 2010. Created by sculptor Justin Coulter, the bronze statue will feature Pekar stepping out of a comic book page, and the backside of the statue will be covered in slate so visitors can draw on it. It will be located at the Harvey and Friends Bookshop which is at the Lee Road Branch of the Cleveland Heights Library.

The Estate of Harvey Pekar is raising funds for the project on Kickstarter. British writer comics Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta) is offering a “cup of tea and a long winter’s chat” video conference to donors who pledge $99 to the project.
