Glittering Blue, A Spectacular Stop Motion Video of Earth Created With Images From Japan’s Himawari-8 Satellite

Glittering Blue is a spectacular stop motion video of Earth created with images taken by Japan’s Himawari-8 weather satellite captured over the course of a 24 hour period in August 2015. Featured prominently in the center of the image is Typhoon Soudelor, a category five storm that first formed in July 2015.

The video was put together by Charlie Lloyd who works with satellite imagery for Mapbox, and is available in large-scale as a standalone site or as a looping video.
