For his Cardboard Bicycle Project, Israeli designer Izhar Gafni created a bicycle primarily out of recycled cardboard that is not only strong and durable but inexpensive to make (video). It cost about $9-$12 to manufacture this lightweight bicycle which can withstand water and humidity (with its protective coating). The company ERB will be bringing commercial models of the bike to market and an electric model is being developed.
