I Had Cancer, A Social Network for People Affected by Cancer
I Had Cancer is a new social support network for people who have experienced cancer in their lives, as survivors, fighters, or friends and family of someone affected. Members can share stories and experiences and address open letters to cancer. Founder Mailet Lopez, a cancer survivor, created the website to combat the fear and sense of isolation that accompany the disease (see Lopez talk about her experiences and the website in this video).
I Had Cancer allows cancer survivors, fighters and those newly diagnosed and their supporters, the friends & families of those affected to connect with one another and share their stories and experience of dealing with the deadly disease. Because every 23 seconds someone in the US is diagnosed with cancer and for these people and their loved ones that feeling of isolation isn’t going to go away on its own.
The website is reminiscent of Blame Drew’s Cancer, a site by cancer survivor Drew Olanoff, that invites Twitter users to blame Olanoff’s cancer for any of life’s misfortunes.
