John Bramblitt, A Blind Artist Who Creates Remarkably Vibrant Paintings by Touch
Artist John Bramblitt creates beautifully vibrant paintings and portraits that are all the more remarkable because Bramblitt has never seen any of his own work–he’s blind. Bramblitt began painting after losing his vision 13 years ago due to a seizure disorder. Rather than rely on sight to make his compositions, he uses touch: Bramblitt can feel the colors of his paints based on their different consistencies. He visualizes his portrait subjects by touching them, then he starts each painting by drawing outlines in fabric paint, which leaves raised lines that he uses as he adds color later.
