An Improved Design for Cheaply Turning a Smartphone Into a Powerful Microscope

Smartphone Microscope

Kenji Yoshino has posted an update to his design for converting a smartphone into a powerful microscope using simple items that can be easily and cheaply assembled for approximately $10. The main focusing power for the microscope comes from a lens taken from a laser pointer.

The new design adds a second lens for increased magnification, springs for holding the stage in place, and slides for easily swapping out different specimens.

Yoshino wrote about the new design and included microscopic images taken with the rig for a post on the Make Magazine site.
