Compass, An Apartment Search Service in New York City

Compass

Ori Allon and Robert Reffkin have created Compass, a web service that aims to solve the problem of finding and renting an apartment in New York City. Currently, the process is fraught with fraud by misleading and overly-expensive brokers, but the service that launched today intends to make the apartment-hunting process simpler, more trustworthy, and reduce broker’s fees. Users can search for verified listings through the Compass website, schedule an apartment viewing online, and tour the apartment with a “neighborhood specialist,” and Compass notifies prospective buyers of broker’s fees right on the apartment listing. The service is currently in beta, and you can sign up for an invite code at the Compass website.
