Theremin Cover Version of Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy
Randy George of The Ether and Aether Experiment recently produced an amazing cover version (plus music video) of the Gnarls Barkley song “Crazy” as played on a Theremin, specifically a Moog Etherwave Pro Theremin. What a great jam, I think I’ve watched this video over 10 times now.
This video is an experiment to see how rapidly the theremin can be injected into the world’s collective consciousness.
Speaking of great Theremin music, the wonderful Theremin lounge band Project: Pimento! will be performing Laughing Squid: Paradise Lost on July 28th.

great…my first experience with the theremin was at a Phish concert back in the 90s, shortly after my friends neighbor had his theremin set up on the front porch during halloween, sending out those creepy sounds all over the neighborhood. Living here in asheville n.c., one of Moogs home bases, there are quite a few theremins around as well as many other Moog toys–anyone heard the Moogerfooger? sound amazing with a B3 organ. Theremin+Gnarles=waycool thanxs for the post.

Wow… That was really cool. The theremin usually sounds haunting, so it’s pretty cool to hear someone making it sound soulful.

Very nice. I just purchased a theremin a few days ago and am very excited to get it. This only psyches me up even more. What a great instrument! Thanks for sharing.

Maybe it’s just me, but it doesn’t seem like the Theremin really covers the song well. It sounds sort of like a sick person playing a kazoo.

Is there any risk of the audio (preferably in FLAC format) being offered for download?

How about a Theremin/bagpipe tune or ‘Anarchy in the UK’?
Either way, very nice, now to listen again :)

Jeesh. I haven’t heard anything like that since Barcley James Harvest let me play with their Mellotron when our band supported them as they were getting famous. I have loved eerie sounds ever since. Thanks

I loved that theremin cover of “Crazy”. Would love to hear more. Maybe a theremin cover of Patsy Cline’/Willie Nelson’s “Crazy”?! Leon Theremin, the inventor, originally wanted the theremin to become a part of modern classical music. There’s a documentary out about the theremin with footage from the 1930’s w/ 4 or 5 theremins being played all at once. Also recommended: the soundtrack to the sci-fi classic “The Day The Earth Stood Still”. LOTSA eerie theremin music in that. This strange instrument is just what the doctor ordered for these bizarre tymes. I predict more & more theremin music coming to the forefront of pop culture. kiddSquidd
